When it comes to music from across the Atlantic Ocean, it doesn’t get any bigger than country - on the Emerald Isle, country music’s biggest is Nathan Carter! He just delighted Branson audiences with his special guest appearance at Branson Music Fest, hosted at the Welk Resort, and he’ll follow up with ten highly anticipated concert appearances in November at the Grand Shanghai Theatre. It’s no secret that Branson loves it some entertainment from Ireland, whether it’s the always popular, limited-engagement return of Daniel O’Donnell (a big fan of Carter,) or the Irish delights enjoyed at the King’s Castle Theatre every time Dublin’s Irish Tenors & The Celtic Ladies take the stage, audiences just can’t seem to get enough!
Nathan Carter was already beginning to make a notable name for himself in the country music scene in Ireland when he released his cover of “Wagon Wheel,” a song that also became a triple-platinum seller for American country star, Darius Rucker. Originally written by Bob Dylan and Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show, the unfinished treasure was given added verses by Secor more than twenty-five years later and, for Nathan Carter, it was a move that resulted in pure career gold! Carter’s had five albums hit the top of the charts, “Livin’ the Dream,” “Beautiful Life,” “Where I Wanna Be,” “Stayin’ Up All Night,” and “The Wagon Wheel Show Live,” and has proven that, in his native Ireland, he’s as big as it gets by outselling concerts headlined by Michael Buble, One Direction, and Pharrell Williams. It’s quite an impressive feat for an artist that was once known for being Ireland’s best young accordion player - certainly not the typical career track for American country superstars! To be fair, it wasn’t just his mad skills on polka music’s favorite instrument that got him noticed at the ripe old age of 12 years, by that time, he was also stacking up medals for his vocal abilities. And all the Irish accolades didn’t end there, his talent has impressed the likes of Daniel O’Donnell, the other remarkable entertainer from Ireland who’s makes a big Branson splash with every visit - he’s quoted as saying, “He (Nathan) has taken the Irish music scene by storm. Now it’s time we shared him with the rest of the world.
Just a year or so after Nathan Carter’s release of “Wagon Wheel,” his popularity took another huge leap forward when he became the first country artist in six years to climb to the top of the Irish music charts - Garth Brooks was the last country act to achieve that distinction. Accompanied by his notable Super Six Piece Band, Carter will perform at Branson’s Grand Shanghai Theatre, where Mickey Gilley also performs this year, on Wednesday, November 14 through Saturday, November 17, as well as Monday, November 19 - performances are scheduled for 3:00 and 8:00 p.m.
