He’s an exceptional singer with an very talented family in a fabulous, long-running live music show, but loyal fans of Doug Gabriel know him simply as “The Voice.” Gabriel has been delighting audiences in Branson for decades, delivering incredible renditions of songs made famous by some of music’s biggest artists, including Michael Bolton and Tom Jones, and channeling the unforgettable talent of great singers who left us far too soon, like Roy Orbison and Marty Robbins. In addition to his annual Branson show, Doug has toured and opened for a long list of big-name entertainers, including Tony Orlando, Bobby Vinton, Ronnie McDowell, Marie Osmond, Tanya Tucker, the Gatlin Brothers, and the late, great, and always beloved in Branson, Mel Tillis.
Doug and his family resist the habit on resting on the laurels of past productions, choosing instead to refresh their show season after season, holding onto audience favorite numbers and routines, and adding new songs and humor that entice return visits from happy audiences. And since, as they say, variety is the spice of life, the Gabriels make sure their show is packed with a variety of music eras and genres - from country to pop, and from the 60s to the hits of today. Doug shares the big songs of a wide range of artists, including the Bee Gees, Shania Twain, the Righteous Brothers, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, and many more. And a special treat during the show is when Doug breaks out his “Mufftar,” an instrument he fashioned from a 1969 Thunderbird muffler - it must be seen to be believed!
In addition to Doug, the show’s headliner, the Gabriel cast is made up of Doug’s prettier half, Cheryl, who serves as the show’s emcee and shares her own talented voice on a variety of songs; Mary, the show’s most recent addition - she sings harmony and dances; Jasmine, a featured contemporary singer and dancer; Josh, who plays the drums and shares producing duties with his dad; and Jordan, the show’s master of comic relief.
Doug’s show has always been popular in Branson, but he’s one of the shows that’s moved around a bit - the fact that audiences seem to find him wherever he lands attests to his popularity. He’s found a home for the last few seasons at the Pierce Arrow Theatre in the Shepherd of the Hills district of Branson. No matter where he takes his show in town, you can rest assured, fans will continue to seek him out and pack the house for the incomparable Doug Gabriel!
