We’re excited to report that Branson’s “proposed” aquarium is no longer a “maybe” - the ground has been broken to begin construction on the Aquarium at the Boardwalk! If you follow everything big and new happening in Branson each year (and that can take some time, because there’s always something big and new in Branson,) then you’ve heard about the Aquarium project. Kuvera Partners, the group making Branson’s latest significant attraction a reality, finally got the good news from the City of Branson that the last piece to their project funding puzzle has fallen into place. That’s the good news...now, for the even better news: in addition to all of the incredible live shows, amazing attractions, wonderful museums, outstanding shopping and dining, and the biggest jewel in Branson’s entertainment crown, Silver Dollar City, you and your family and friends will now have a brilliant attraction, one with a focus on “fish and fun,” to enjoy as soon as 2020! (We shared information on the aquarium in a previous post - “Branson - MORE New Stuff? Yep, There’s More!”)
With approximately 46,000 square feet in this highly-anticipated new attraction, special features of the Aquarium at the Boardwalk are expected to be fascinating and plentiful - you’ll be discovering a walk-through water tunnel - now that’s gonna feel really cool, almost like you might suddenly end up underwater with the fish! There’ll be a palace where you’ll meet the mermaids who watch over the sea and safeguard it’s many precious creatures, and you’ll not only see a Giant Pacific Octopus, you can have your picture taken with one! You’ll enjoy your own undersea observation station to witness the incredible beauty of the Stingray, and kids can experience a photo opp “in the tank” with bottom-dwelling Blue Dot Stingrays and Sea Robins. You can make friends with the fish when you stick your fingers into water that’s home to Horseshoe Crabs, Cownose Rays, and Bamboo Sharks. A 14-foot, net-enclosed climber with a slide that lets your little ones glide through schools of spiny Lionfish is sure to create lots of fun souvenir photos of your visit! A majestic coral reef will be swarming with gorgeous fish friends, including Batfish, Tang, Angelfish, and other brilliantly hued marine life. And there’s gonna be so much more! Kuvera Partners didn’t make their decision to bring an aquarium to Branson on a whim; they knew something really special needed to happen on the prime piece of Highway 76 real estate that they acquired in 2014, and it was a solid and thorough study, conducted by the well-known local Springfield firm of H2R Market Research (a company also frequently used by significant companies like Herschend Family Entertainment, the owners of Silver Dollar City) that told Kuvera their best bet to please fans and haven’t-yet-been-here guests of Branson was an aquarium. The study revealed that nearly nine in ten people participating had a very positive reaction toward an aquarium in Branson, confirming that such an attraction would generate the kind of market buzz that would have them talking about it. It’s also believed that having an aquarium-style attraction in Springfield - Bass Pro Shops’ Wonders of Wildlife - adds to the appeal rather than creating a “one or the other” type of decision in travelers...folks paying a visit to the area would likely want to see both, especially considering the very unique features of each attraction.
As we mentioned above, there’s a lot that Branson offers to anyone looking for the ideal family destination, including live theater productions, and shows filled with magic, country music, tribute performances, and those featuring a variety of music. There are lots of museums, including Veterans Memorial, Branson Dinosaur, Titanic, and History of Fishing, as well as exciting attractions, like Fritz’s Adventure, Runaway Mountain Coaster, Adventures Ziplines of Branson, and Branson’s Famous Old Time Photos. And boy is there food! Barbecue, pizza, Mexican fare and other international cuisine, and everyone’s favorite beef entrees - steak and prime rib, can all be found in abundance in Branson. So there’s no need to wait until 2020, get here in 2019 and revel in all this entertainment mecca has to offer, then make plans to return next year for the grand opening of the Aquarium at the Boardwalk!
