Branson 2019 “News” on What’s New...Plus Even More!

Every year, Branson adds new things - sometimes just a few, but usually way more than expected.  This past December, we reported on the new stuff coming this way in 2019 - and now there’s even more!  We’ll tell you about the things that didn’t show up in our December post, as well as update you on some of the things that did.  Of course, Branson doesn’t need to do a single new thing - there’s already so much to see and do here, like dozens and dozens of fabulous shows, an amazing variety of attractions and activities, one of the world’s favorite theme parks - Silver Dollar City - an impressive collection of museums, and more great food and excellent shopping opportunities than we can count!  Even with all that, Branson manages to up the ante every year, and 2019 is no exception! (See our original “new in 2019” post here: “New in Branson for 2019 - 17 New Reasons to Visit!”)

We promised an update when we had at least five new things to talk about, so here’s more of what’s “new” new, and “news” about the previously reported new stuff!  Is that enough “new” for you?  We hope so!

MORE New Stuff for 2019!

1.  Aretha - Queen of Soul Tribute:  Branson singing legend, Nedgra Culp, brings one of her most beloved tribute performances back to the stage - Aretha Franklin!  You’ve seen the woman with the bigger-than-life voice belt out a variety of songs as a show headliner and back-up singer, and also as a tribute performer for Legends in Concert. Now she’s once again headlining and once again paying tribute by sharing the contagiously catchy hit music of the unforgettable Queen of Soul.  The late and much-loved artist blessed our ears with songs like “Chain of Fools,” “A Natural Woman,” “Freeway of Love,” and “Think,” and she’ll forever remain in our hearts and souls for her talent, courage, and inspirational presence whenever she took the stage.  For our money, nobody does justice to the musical mastery of Aretha quite like Nedgra!

Location:  Tribute Theatre - 3310 West Highway 76

Schedule:  The show kicks off on Friday, April 5 and plays every Friday in April, and then Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from May through December 14.  All shows are at 3:00 p.m.

2.  Shrek The Musical:  He’s been everyone’s favorite lovably grumpy ogre since the Shrek movie series launched on the big screen nearly 20 years ago. Now his journey from the swamp home, where he yearns to be left alone, to the kingdom of the royal ruler who threatens his solitude develops into a memorable experience of friendship, with a delightfully chatty Donkey, unexpected romance, and adventure.  The whole familiar gang returns, including Lord Farquaad and Princess Fiona, with an all new musical score and unforgettable fun for the entire family!

Location:  Welk Resort Theatre - 1984 Missouri Highway 165

Schedule:  June 15 through August 10 on Saturdays at 10:00 a.m., from June 9 through August 7 on most Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m., and from June 8 through August 10 on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

3.  Area 51 ¾ Dinner Show:  A completely audience-immersive theater experience...with zombies and aliens.  Nope, that’s not some kind of live television sitcom vision, it’s an actual dinner show coming to Branson’s ever-evolving line-up of live entertainment options at the White House Theatre.  Guests in the audience will be encouraged to get in on the action, joining a motley collection of survivors trying to escape mind-controlling aliens and brain-eating zombies! Framed in an “instructional seminar” setting, it’s a laughter-filled education in the art of surviving the Apocalypse.  And dinner is impressive - Lemon Pepper Chicken, Swiss Steak, and Glowing Radioactive Powdered Sugar Brownies (and if you grew up in the era of peace, flower power, bell bottoms, and all that’s groovy - these are not those kind of brownies!)

Location:  White House Theatre - 2255 Gretna Road

Schedule:  The show launches on March 12 and runs through December 28.  It plays on most Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays in March - most Tuesdays and Saturdays in April and May - most Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from June through August, and most Tuesdays and Saturdays from October through December - plus on Friday, December 27 - all performances are at 4:30 p.m.

4.  After Hours Branson Comedy Company Improv Show:  It’s quite rare, but Branson does offer “adults only” entertainment - but don’t get that wrong, please, we’re talking about entertainment that’s limited to grownups because it takes place late in the evening - in this case, a show at 10:00 p.m. - and because it involves improv comedy, something usually reserved for an 18-and-up audience due to the unpredictability involved when comedians and comedians-in-the-making take the stage to “improvise!” What is predictable about the After Hours Branson Comedy Company Improv Show is that you’ll have a blast!  It follows a “Whose Line Is It Anyway” format with interactive skits, games, and more late-night fun than you’ve had in forever!

Location:  White House Theatre - 2255 Gretna Road

Schedule:  On Saturdays beginning April 20 through May, Thursday and Saturday from June through September, and back to Saturday only from October through December 28 - plus New Year’s Eve.  All shows are at 10:00 p.m.

5.  Branson Comedy Company Murders Dinner Show:  The White House brings us another fun, interactive, and completely immersive entertainment experience, served up with a meal!  For this show, you’ll enjoy an authentic murder mystery experience, one where guests can actually concoct a backstory as they create their own characters - they’ll interact with the trained players as they delve into a scenario filled with mystery, suspense, intrigue, and murder, trying unsuccessfully to refrain from fits of laughter!  This is live theater where all the action is happening around you, rather than on a distant stage in front of you - so paying attention to the clues will be key to solving the crime, because your choices along the way will impact the story’s direction - how much fantastic fun is that! To sum it up, it’s one part live show, another part escape room adventure, and a big part improvisation, and it all adds up to 100% fantastic entertainment!  And you’ll be treated to the same delicious dinner menu enjoyed by guests of Area 51 ¾.

Location:  White House Theatre - 2255 Gretna Road

Schedule:  It begins on April 10 and runs Wednesday and Thursday in April and May, Wednesday and Friday from June through September, and Wednesday and Thursday from October through December 19.  All shows are at 4:30 p.m.

6.  Flashlight Tours at Titanic Museum Attraction:  Yep, it’s just what it sounds like - you can take a night-time guided tour through Branson’s hugely popular Titanic Museum!  Unlike a typical daytime visit, this tour is guided, includes a Titanic keepsake flashlight, and has a very limited schedule - a trial run of this cool new event saw every tour sold out.  If you’re a fan of the Travel Channel, you’ll know that Titanic was recently featured on their top-rated program, and that means the new Flashlight Tour is right up your alley! We can’t stress enough that there are limited opportunities to take one of these tours - advance reservations are required, so book early!  (Check out Titanic’s amazing lifejacket display: “Branson’s Titanic Museum Attraction - What’s Now, New, and Next?”)

Location:  Titanic Museum Attraction - 3235 West Highway 76

Schedule:  Saturdays - March 16 & 23 - June 15, 22, & 29 - July 13, 20, & 27 - August 3

Updates - What’s New with the “New” Stuff!

  • Silver Dollar City announced their year of Shows & Festivals for 2019 - they’re on schedule to open the season with Spring Ride Days on March 13, with their first big annual Festival - The Festival of Wonder - beginning on April 10 - we’re looking forward to the new Craft Days - Pumpkin Nights Harvest Festival coming in September!

  • The proposed Aquarium at the Boardwalk is a big step closer to reality with funding components falling into place - they hope to open the exciting attraction in 2020.

  • National Enquirer Live, a museum-style attraction, is now a reality - they recently broke ground, so to speak, and the process of repurposing the former Starlite Theatre (we’re a bit sad to see it go - it was a wonderful live entertainment venue) - began in December - look for their grand opening later this year.

That’s what we have for now, but as always, stay tuned and we’ll report again as we learn of anything “new” new, or any updates on anything we’ve already shared with you!
