“Apple Jack” Shannon Thomason puts on a hilarious performance for adults and children alike in Comedy Jamboree, a longtime staple of Branson’s famous Grand Country Music Hall. Parents comment on how it’s a joy to watch a genuinely funny comedian without having to “explain” racy jokes to their children. The writing team at Save On Branson recently got an exclusive interview with the busy Apple Jack in between his variety shows.
Q: How and when did you know you wanted to do comedy for a living?
As a kid I loved watching comedians Justin Wilson, Archie Campbell, Lewis Grizzard, and Grandpa Jones from Hee Haw. I can remember pulling out all their old albums and listening for hours. Not only were they master storytellers, but they were funny without being dirty, and not everybody can do that!
Q: What are families going to get when they come to see Comedy Jamboree?
Comedy, singing, and dancing! The comedy is the body of the show, and the music, singing, and dancing is the life blood. We are so blessed to be here doing what we do every day because the Bible says a merry heart does a body good, and that’s what we strive to do.
Q: Where did you get your start, and how did you acquire the nickname "Apple Jack"?
I was born and raised in the small town of Rayville, Louisiana, and lived most of my life down there. I grew up singing and performing in my church, local theatres, and a few bands in and around Richland Parish. Lime green’s my favorite color, and I love Apple Jacks all day every day, so it just fit!
Q: What would you have done for a living if you hadn’t become an entertainer?
I play bass guitar and sing in my band The Super RedHawks, so I’d still be onstage!
Q: What’s your favorite thing to do in Branson? Where can your fans find you on the rare off day?
I enjoy spending time with my family. My Southern belle Suzie and I have been married for almost twenty years, and our two beautiful daughters are Lucy and Anna. We like going to church together and cooking out in the summertime.
Q: Comedy Jamboree is absolutely hilarious! How did you become part of the show?
When I first arrived in Branson I got hired at Silver Dollar City to be in The Silver Dollar Saloon Show and the Echo Hollow evening show. Those experiences really helped me hone my skills and get a feel for Branson’s audience, and I just fell in love with the God and country values that permeates in the area. I joined Comedy Jamboree in 2007 and I’m also in Amazing Pets, and the Lord has blessed me every day in allowing me to do what I love!
You can see the funny “Apple Jack” Shannon Thomason in Comedy Jamboree 3pm daily and in Amazing Pets 10am daily at Grand Country Music Hall (1945 Hwy 76 Country Blvd) through December! Tickets for these action-packed shows can be purchased at BransonShowTickets.com, or by calling 877-688-3179.
