Best of Branson - Week of March 18, 2018

What We Love In Branson This Week!

Hello from beautiful Branson, Missouri!  Welcome to our second edition of our weekly series - “What We Love In Branson This Week!”  This series features shows, attractions, events, and other special happenings that are catching our attention for the coming week.  This series is strictly what’s top-of-mind each coming week, so make sure you “tune in” every Sunday!

Here, in alphabetical order, is What We Love in Branson This Week:

George Jones and Friends - Keeping Country Alive:  One incredible tribute artist, so many country legends honored in one great show!

3 Reasons Why We Love George Jones and Friends - Keeping Country Alive:

1.  Artist variety!  George Geisser could easily fill his show with the huge George Jones catalog of hits, but he also gives us the music of Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Randy Travis, Jones' frequent duet partner, Tammy Wynette, and more.

2.  Classic country lives on!  We can hear contemporary country all over radio, and through loads of online playlists, so hearing Geisser keep that classic sound alive on the Branson stage is much appreciated!

3.  The intimate setting!  Whether you see the show in the Elite Theatre or the Little Opry Theatre, you’ll be getting a great, grand dose of classic country music up-close-and-personal!

Schedule this week:  Sunday, March 18 - Friday, March 23 - Saturday, March 24 at 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, March 20 & Thursday, March 22 at 9:30 a.m.

Venue:  The Elite Theatre inside Branson’s IMAX Entertainment Complex

James Garrett of The Little Opry Theatre:  An amazing artist who tackles tributes to three music legends, including these shows:  George Strait Country and A Tribute to John Denver.

3 Reasons Why We Love These 2 Shows Starring James Garrett:

1.  What a diverse talent!  Garrett is so versatile, he can easily deliver the 70s cool of his good friend, John Denver, and then amp up the country cool to give us George Strait.

2.  The venue fits the tribute!  Although the artistry of Strait and Denver is larger-than-life, their style feels more front porch than football arena, so the intimate, 210-seat Little Opry Theatre fits Garrett’s tributes like a glove.

3.  All those big hits!  The long list of fabulous songs we’ve been blessed with from both George Strait and the late and much loved, John Denver, is simply astounding. From a Rocky Mountain High to some Ocean Front Property, Garrett’s tribute to both artists is well-deserved and well-done.

Schedule this week for George Strait Country:  Tuesday, March 20 & Thursday, March 22 at 5:00 p.m.

Schedule this week for A Tribute to John Denver:  Tuesday, March 20 & Saturday, March 24 at 10:00 a.m.

Venue:  The Little Opry Theatre inside Branson’s IMAX Entertainment Complex

The Petersen Family Bluegrass Band:  The sensational, talented family that helped put Branson bluegrass music on the map!

3 Reasons Why We Love the Petersen Family Bluegrass Band:

1.  Two favorite things!  It’s family and bluegrass, a music marriage made in heaven!  An entire family that possesses a crazy huge level of talent; mom and dad - son and daughters, what a joy to behold!

2.  A national spotlight!  The incredibly talented daughter, Ellen, caught the attention of American Idol, putting Branson on national TV - she made the top 48, a huge achievement in a field of millions of wannabes.

3.  Bluegrass, of course!  A grand good foot tappin' time is what you’re gonna find when you visit the delightful Petersen Family Bluegrass Band!  They’ll cover your favorites and treat you to great original material.

Schedule this week:  Sunday, March 18 - Tuesday, March 20 - Thursday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m.

Venue:  The Little Opry Theatre inside Branson’s IMAX Entertainment Complex

SIX:  One little word, one big, beautiful show featuring six real brothers delivering a vast stage full of music with just their own voices!

3 Reasons Why We Love SIX:

1.  It’s really a magic show!  At least it seems that way - how else do you explain the sound of an entire rock band, or philharmonic orchestra, without seeing a single musical instrument playing anywhere in the theater?

2.  Music variety!  They share a wide range of hit songs by a variety of artists, including Journey, MC Hammer, Tom Jones, Coldplay, and The Beach Boys.

3.  Visually stunning!  The classy, colorful suits, stage props, special effects - everything works together to create a show that’s not just full of great music, it’s a dazzling sight to behold!

Schedule this week:  Monday, March 19 - Wednesday, March 21 - Friday, March 23 at 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, March 20 - Thursday, March 22 - Saturday, March 24 at 2:00 p.m.

Venue:  The Hughes Brothers Theatre

Smoke on the Mountain:  A popular touring production - hilarious and heartwarming - that’s found the perfect home on the Branson stage!

3 Reasons Why We Love Smoke on the Mountain:

1.  A sensational cast!  This theater production works so well because it has the ideal cast of players - they artfully deliver the play’s colorful characters, known as the Sanders Family Singers, in such incredible fashion that you can’t help but love them!

2.  Great gospel music!  The audience becomes the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church congregation, singing along to 30 classic gospel songs.
3.  An irresistible story!  The Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, circa 1938, sets the stage for the Sanders family performing their church’s first Saturday Night Gospel Sing. Their attempt at perfection is delightfully hampered by their quirkiness, completely endearing them to the congregation.  You’ll laugh yourself silly -- maybe shed a tear or two, but most of all, you’ll have a blast!

Schedule this week:  Thursday, March 22 through Saturday, March 24 at 8:00 p.m.

Venue:  The Little Opry Theatre inside Branson’s IMAX Entertainment Complex

Sons of Britches:  Great music - delightfully funny and clever entertainment - courtesy of two talented and charming fellas who deliver Branson’s only “all request music and comedy show!”

3 Reasons Why We Love Sons of Britches:

1.  The name - the stars!  Sons of Britches - so clever!  Great musicians, hilarious comedians - two good buddies, Earl (Melvin) Vaughan “don’t know anything & don’t suspect anything” and Louis (Squirrel Dog) Darby “gee, it’s dark in here - it gets late early!”  And, just added - Branson stage veteran, Terry Mire! Terry is well-known from his years with The Cajun Connection at Silver Dollar City.

2.  The music!  These seriously good musicians play an eclectic combination of music genres that includes Cajun, rhythm & blues, rock ‘n’ roll, country, bluegrass, and zydeco, and they love to take a few liberties with some of your favorite songs!

3.  Their “fashion” sense!  The Sons of Britches take a unique approach to stage attire - they’re all dressed up in fancy tuxedo shirts and black bow ties, accompanied by their very best overalls - a real vision, ain’t it?

Schedule this week:  Sunday, March 18 & Monday, March 19 at 8:00 p.m. - Wednesday, March 21 at 5:00 p.m. - Friday, March 23 at 2:00 p.m.

Venue:  The Little Opry Theatre inside Branson’s IMAX Entertainment Complex
